Literaki – play Scrabble online against the computer

   Pick a language and level

   Before the game, choose English or Polish rules, the computer's difficulty and how words are checked.

   Build a word

   Click a tile on your rack, then a square on the board. You can also drag tiles, or click a square and type on your keyboard.

   Confirm your move

   The “Play” button shows your score live. Every word you form is checked against the dictionary.

   Exchange or pass wisely

   Stuck with bad letters? Exchange them (while at least 7 tiles remain in the bag) or pass.

   Win on points

   The game ends when a player uses their last tiles with the bag empty. The highest score wins.

Literaki follows the official rules of Scrabble. The English version uses the official English rules; the Polish version follows the Polish Scrabble Federation (PFS).

• The board has 15×15 squares. Each player holds 7 tiles and refills from the bag after every move.
• The first word must be at least two letters long and cover the centre star, which doubles its score.
• Later words go in a single row or column and must connect to tiles already on the board. Every new word formed counts – including cross-words.
• Letter premiums (double and triple letter – blue squares) multiply a tile's value; word premiums (double and triple word – pink and red squares) multiply the whole word. A premium only counts in the turn a tile is placed on it.
• Using all 7 tiles in one move earns a 50-point bonus (a “bingo”).
• A blank tile stands for any letter and is worth 0 points.
• Instead of playing, you may exchange any number of tiles while at least 7 remain in the bag, or pass.
• At the end, each player subtracts the value of the tiles left on their rack; the player who went out adds the opponent's remaining tile values.

Premium squares

The board has 8 triple word squares, 17 double word squares (including the centre), 12 triple letter squares and 24 double letter squares.

• Tile set: Polish Scrabble has ą, ć, ę, ł, ń, ó, ś, ź, ż and no q, v or x. Letter values differ – the most valuable Polish tile is “ź” (9 points), in English “q” and “z” (10 points).
• Ending by passes: under PFS rules the game ends when both players pass twice in a row. In English, it ends after six successive scoreless turns (passes and exchanges).
• Dictionary: the Polish version uses the SJP.PL word-game list (the basis of OSPS, the official Polish Scrabble dictionary) with all inflected forms. The English version uses the open ENABLE word list plus the official two-letter words.

Each set contains 100 tiles, including 2 blanks. The table lists the number of tiles and the point value of every letter.

Easy

Plays short words and rarely goes for premium squares. Great for beginners and kids.

Medium

Plays solidly but doesn't always choose the best move – like a typical home player.

Hard

Always picks the highest-scoring move out of every possible play.

Expert

Weighs points and keeps good tiles for the next turn, and plays to go out in the endgame. In testing it beats “hard” in about 70% of games.
