Privacy

You do not need an account to read the website or play Literaki. The sections below explain which activities run on your device and which send data to a service. If you subscribe to a newsletter, I process your email address and selected subject to send the requested updates.

I use Umami to collect visit and feature-use statistics. This sends statistical data to the analytics service, including on the Literaki game, dictionary, and tutorial pages. The analytics section below describes the scope.

Literaki: game, dictionary, and practice

During a game against the computer, word checks, scoring, and hints run in your browser after the dictionary loads. Board words are not sent to a server for validation. The separate dictionary search sends your letters, word, pattern, and filters to the website server to return results. Opening word details also sends the selected word.

In a game with a friend, moves and the necessary game state are exchanged between the players’ browsers. Connection services help the devices connect. A multiplayer game therefore involves network communication.

The browser also stores unfinished games, game settings, results against the computer, panel preferences, and tutorial progress. You can remove these records by clearing this website’s browser data. They do not automatically sync to another device.

Analytics, including Literaki

I use these statistics to understand which features people use, where games or exercises are abandoned, and which errors need attention. Umami records visits, page paths, referral sources, browser and device information, language, screen size, and approximate location derived from the connection. Umami states that it does not store IP addresses in its analytics records or use tracking cookies.

On the Literaki pages, event statistics also cover:

• Starting, resuming, and ending games; language, difficulty, rule settings, scores, number of turns, elapsed time, and game outcome.
• Using hints or full screen, requesting a rematch, and the success or failure of invitations and player connections.
• Dictionary search mode, query length, filter settings, use of blanks or patterns, number of results, response time, and error categories.
• Selected lessons and boards, guided or independent practice, hint levels, number of attempts, completion, and time spent on an exercise.

Literaki event properties do not include the text of dictionary queries, words played, rack letters, search patterns, invitation links, tokens, or connection codes. Page analytics are configured to exclude URL query parameters and fragments. This exclusion concerns analytics; the dictionary search still sends its query to the website server as described above.

These events do not add a player account identifier, name, or email address. Umami uses anonymous session identifiers to group activity. For details, see the Umami data documentation.

Cookies

Umami does not use tracking cookies. The website uses browser storage for features such as:

• Your theme preference (light/dark mode)
• Your selected language preference
• Literaki games, settings, results, and tutorial progress

These local records support the website features. Separate analytics events and network requests are described above.
