At the end, drop your valuable letters

When the opponent is about to go out, your tiles count double.

Learn the tactic

If the opponent can go out next turn, the move score alone is not enough. Every tile you keep is taken from your score and given to the opponent. Compare: move score minus twice the value of the tiles you keep.

Remember

In the endgame, shed expensive tiles first.

Find your own move without seeing the answer. Hints remain available, but using them makes this an assisted attempt.
