How to Make a Book from Paper at Home

Prepare the file

Upload your PDF to the signature-maker tool and download the converted file ready for double-sided printing (flip on long edge).

Fold the sheets into signatures

Fold each group of printed sheets in half and run a bone folder along the crease for a sharp, clean fold.

Collate the pages

Stack the signatures in the correct order and check that the pages run in sequence from first to last.

Sew the signatures

Sew the signatures with a Pamphlet Stitch for a small book, or a kettle stitch or Japanese stab binding for multiple signatures, using a thick needle and strong thread.

Glue the spine

Brush PVA glue along the spine, reinforce with a strip of gauze or mull, and leave to dry under a weighted board or in clamps.

Bind the marbled cover

Cover bookbinding board with marbled paper leaving even margins, glue the endpapers, and insert the sewn book block into the finished case.
